Rick Hughes, founder and President of Rick Hughes Evangelistic Ministries, Inc., is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. Raised in a modest, single parent home, Rick distinguished him- self in high school through his excellence in both football and track. In 1964, he was named to the High School All American football team and also set state records in the shot put and discus. Although the University of Florida signed Rick to a four-year football scholarship, his SAT scores did not meet the University’s admittance requirement. This failure caused Rick to realize that excellence in athletics alone would not allow him to play college football. Thus, when Rick’s high school coach challenged him to apply himself in the classroom just as he had done on the field, Rick accepted the challenge and received a second chance. With improved SAT scores in hand, Rick entered the University of Alabama as a freshman football player under the training of the prestigious coach, Paul William “Bear” Bryant. After just one successful year, however, Rick decided to leave the University of Alabama. This decision he considers the “low point” in his life.

However, in 1967, the turning point came. Rick’s decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior opened a different path for Rick: not one of football fame and academic achievement, but one tailor made for him by God. Through the ministry of Berachah Church in Houston, Texas, and its pastor, R.B. Thieme, Jr., Rick learned principles and promises of God’s Word that directed him into a life of Christian Ministry. This winning athlete now became focused on a new objective: winning souls for Christ. To this day, his tireless love for his Savior drives Rick to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with Americans, young and old.

Over the last 45 years, Rick has taught thousands of classes and spoken at hundreds of churches and schools and has also authored several books—all of which are free for the asking—and hosts a weekly radio broadcast which can be heard, not only on stations throughout the U.S, but on his website at www.rickhughesministries.org. Rick Hughes’ life is undeniable proof that even bad decisions and limited options, when placed in God’s hands, can be transformed into a life that is fulfilling and wonderful beyond one’s wildest dreams. “For with God, nothing will be impossible.” (Luke 1:37 NKJV)
